LESSON PLAN/VIDEO - ALL LEVELS

Set up…

Purple block, small wedge, panel mat, pit pillow

Drill #1

<aside> 🔎

Focus: Movement while maintaining open shoulders

</aside>

Intro Backbend, standing at the bottom of a wedge mat (with wedge mat behind) and backbend down to the wedge; one shoulder rock and attempt to stand
Level 1 (Auburn BT) Backbend, standing at the bottom of a wedge mat (with wedge mat behind) and backbend down to the wedge with a leg lift and hold; one shoulder rock and attempt to stand; landing in lunge
Level 2 (Auburn IT) Front limber onto wedge mat, standing at the bottom of a wedge mat (and facing the wedge); toe-pop x3 to up and back over (legs should straighten when they toe-pop)
Level 3 (Auburn IT) BWO to handstand snapdown to knees with arms by ears when landing up the wedge, standing at the bottom of wedge mat (with wedge mat behind)
Level 4 N/A
BHS Front limber onto wedge mat, standing at the bottom of a wedge mat (and facing the wedge); toe-pop x3 to up and back over (legs should straighten when they toe-pop)

<aside> ❓

The Why? Build core strength and an open shoulder while adding movement

</aside>

<aside> 🚧

Corrections: The toe-pop should be driven through the toe to a straight leg “pass through” body shape as it will look when they backhandspring, including keeping the shoulders open

Drill #2

<aside> 🔎

Focus: Beginner forward and backward positions through handstand

</aside>

Intro (Auburn BT) Standing between 2 panel mats (higher ones if applicable), backbend to one panel mat, shoulder rock and stand up and place hands to panel mat in front
Level 1 (Auburn BT) Bridge between 2 panel mats, with hands on the floor, both feet on a panel mat, kick over to stand on panel mat, and then back over. Disconnected tick-tocks
Level 2 (Auburn IT) Bridge between 2 panel mats, with hands on the floor, one foot on a panel mat, one leg lifted, kick up and over. Keep hands on the floor and kick back over. BWO-FWO tick-tocks.
Level 3 (Auburn IT) Tick-tocks on the floor
Level 4 N/A
BHS Bridge between 2 panel mats, with hands on the floor, one foot on a panel mat, one leg lifted, kick up and over. Keep hands on the floor and kick back over. BWO-FWO tick-tocks.

<aside> ❓

The Why? We are really focusing on the mobility of the shoulders in working through the tick-tock connected elements.

</aside>

<aside> 🚧

Corrections: You want little to no “rocking” through the shoulders before “taking off” for the up and over, whether forward or backward.

Drill #3

<aside> 🔎

Focus: Handstand(s)

</aside>

Intro Front limber to wall, 1 toe-pop up and back over to 1 “hop” and back over to front limber
Level 1 (Auburn BT) Handstand split with toe on the wall. Pop through the foot and switch lead leg.
Level 2 (Auburn IT) Backward roll to plank, hop forward to forward roll
Level 3 Back extension roll to handstand hold, forward roll down
Level 4 N/A
BHS Backward roll to plank, hop forward to forward roll

<aside> ❓

The Why? Learning to hold yourself upside down while maintaining body shapes is going to be key before we add the “jumping” to our hands.

</aside>

<aside> 🚧

Corrections: Watch for the shapes through each level. Adding forward tuck position and back tuck positions in rolls stacks around handstands, etc., will be important in growing into connections.
